I’m currently finishing up my book for parents called Stranger Danger - How to Talk to Kids About Strangers, and wanted to let everyone know a bit about it. :) A simple one sentence synopsis: Stranger Danger - How to Talk to Kids About Strangers is a guide to help parents teach young children about strangers in a fun, interactive, and age appropriate way - without scaring them. The idea for this book came easy enough...Kids. Every year it amazes me how little the children in my class know about how to stay safe. And much of what they do know is incorrect, or simply intended to scare them. Most kids between the ages of 3-8 don’t know what a stranger is, so telling them to not talk to strangers is useless. In their minds, a stranger is a monster - not a real person! I wrote this book to help parents teach their children to learn to stay safe. While there are a lot of books out there about talking to kids about strangers, most of them are children’s picture books, intended to be read to children ages 6 -10. Stranger Danger - How to Talk to Kids About Strangers is for parents of children ages 3-8. It is a how-to book for parents that uses techniques developed over years of teaching young children, and takes into consideration the unique learning styles of this younger age group. It’s been my experience that kids need/want to know what to DO in dangerous situations, but are usually only told to what NOT to do. (Don’t talk to strangers, etc.) No one ever tells them what they should actually DO if they find themselves in trouble. This book will help parents teach young children what they CAN do to stay safe, using fun, interactive, and age appropriate methods - without scaring them. Stranger Danger - How to Talk to Kids About Strangers will be published thru Happi Kamper Press, and should be available in mid September in both print and eBook editions.
