Guess that means I’m ‘it’ on the Next Big Thing Blog Hop! First, I want to welcome you to my itty-bitty little piece of the blog hop. I was tagged by Chris Stralyn, so be sure to hop on over and check out Chris’ awesome blog. There are a few rules for the blog hop, but don’t worry, these are some pretty easy ones.
The rules for the blog hop are as follows: ****Give credit to the person/blog that tagged you. ****Post the rules for the blog hop. ****Answer these ten questions about your current WIP (Work In Progress) on your blog. ****Tag 3-5 other writers/bloggers and add their links so we can hop on over and meet them! Ten Interview Questions for The Next Big Thing: What is the working title of your book or project? I’m currently finishing up my book for parents called Stranger Danger - How to Talk to Kids About Strangers. Where did the idea come from for your book or project? As a preschool teacher, I teach a unit every year with kids and parents about stranger danger. Someone suggested I should organize all the info I use in that unit and write a book for parents. So I did! What genre / category does your book / project fall under? Hmmm, Parenting maybe? Or How-to? Which actors would you chose to play your characters in a movie or TV rendition? Well, since my book is a how to book for parents…the odds of it being made into a movie are nil. Sooo, I’ll skip this question. What is a one sentence synopsis of your book / project? Stranger Danger - How to Talk to Kids About Strangers is a guide to help parents teach young children about strangers in a fun, interactive, and age appropriate way - without scaring them. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? What are the plans for your project? I will publish Stranger Danger myself, thru Happi Kamper Press. My plan is to publish both print and eBook editions. How long did it take you to complete the first draft of your book / project? The information and techniques presented in the book developed over years of teaching preschoolers. It has taken me about 3 months to get it all organized into something I would consider a final draft. I’m just working on the formatting now, and hope to have it on the market in the next 6 weeks or so. What other books / projects would you compare this work to within your genre? Wow, there are a lot of books out there about talking to kids about strangers. Many of them are children’s books, and mine is a book for parents of kids ages 3-8. Not too many of those around, so I guess I don’t have a good answer for this question. Who or what inspired you to write this book, or create this project? Kids. Every year it amazes me how little the children in my class know about how to stay safe. And much of what they do know is incorrect, or simply intended to scare them. Most kids between the ages of 3-8 don’t know what a stranger is, so telling them to not talk to strangers is useless. In their minds, a stranger is a monster - not a real person! I wrote this book to help parents teach their children to learn to stay safe. What else about the book or project might pique the reader's interest? It’s been my experience that kids need/want to know what to DO in dangerous situations, but are usually only told to what NOT to do. (Don’t talk to strangers, etc.) No one ever tells them what they should actually do if they find themselves in trouble. This book will help parents teach young children what they CAN do to stay safe, using fun, interactive, and age appropriate methods - without scaring them. Now it's my turn to list additional blogs to hop on over to! Enjoy! Chris Stralyn Mike Feistel Colleen Juntunen
